Milton Township Assessor Seniors' Program

Seniors' Real Estate Tax Deferral Program

Payment of real estate taxes plus interest may be deferred until a home is sold or becomes part of an estate. You may repay tax at any time. A lien is filed on the property until the "loan" is repaid.

    Requirements:

  • You must be 65 years of age or older by June 1st of the calendar year during which the application is made.


  • You must own and occupy the property.


  • You must have no delinquent real estate taxes.


  • You must have fire and casualty insurance on the property.


  • You must file the application by March 1st in the year the taxes are due.


  • Total household income must be $40,000 or less (senior or senior and spouse only).


  • You must have lived in Illinois as a property owner for at least 3 years.
